Temple anniversary celebrations

NEW DELHI: To mark the eighth anniversary of Shri Karunya Maha Ganapathy Temple, the Shri Ganesh Sewa Samaj has organised a five-day festival on the temple premises here in Mayur Vihar Phase-II. Special "poojas" and "homams" will be performed during the festival that began on Thursday.

"Ganesh homam" and "Navagraha homam" will be performed on Sunday, the anniversary day.

Nirankari Mandal president passes away

NEW DELHI: Sant Nirankari Mandal president Bhagat Kotumal Hemrajani passed away this past week at the age of 79. Prior to his nomination to the position of president, Mr. Hemrajani was member in charge of finance and accounts for 33 years.

Rich tributes were paid to him at a function organised at the Mandal premises in Sant Nirankari Nagar here. Addressing the gathering, Head of the Sant Nirankari Mission, Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj, said Mr. Hemrajani preached the spiritual message of the mission not only through words but also through his actions.

NIOS admission dates

NEW DELHI: The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has announced the admission dates for its secondary and senior secondary courses. Application forms will be available from this Saturday. NIOS will accept applications for the two courses till July 31 and with a late fee thereafter.

NIOS students who have not registered themselves for the public examination to be held in October-November this year will also be required to pay a late fee of Rs. 15 per subject till July 4. Subsequent to this, students will be required to pay a consolidated late fee of Rs. 500, which will be accepted by NIOS till July 20.

Cheque handed over

NEW DELHI: Canara Bank Chairman and Managing Director M.B.N. Rao handed over a cheque for Rs. 198 crores as dividend for the financial year 2006-07 to Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram on Wednesday.

The Bank has recorded its highest net profit of Rs. 1,343 crores so far, a 21 per cent growth over the past year. Compared with a 55 per cent dividend for the previous financial year, the Bank has declared a dividend of 66 per cent for the financial year 2006-07.

Two arrested

New Delhi: The police have arrested two applicants of Pusa Institute in Inder Puri area of South-West Delhi for submitting forged marksheets for admission to Hotel Management course.

Lokesh, resident of Sangam Vihar and Mukesh, who lived in Ambedkar Nagar, were arrested after Pusa Institute authorities complained that the marksheets submitted by them were fake, according to sources.
