Call for collecting quality data

NEW DELHI:
Union Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation (Independent Charge) G.K. Vasan on Thursday called for development of a strong statistical system in the States and at the Centre to ensure availability of quality data for planning purposes.
Speaking at a function here to mark the 113th birth anniversary of the great Indian statistician P.C. Mahalanobis, Mr. Vasan said his Ministry was creating a data warehouse of official statistics.
The Minister conferred the National Award in Statistics in the senior statistician category jointly on Manindra Nath Das, former Director of the Institute of Agricultural Research Statistics, and Professor Nikhilesh Bhattacharya, former Director of the Indian Statistical Institute.
