NEW DELHI: Two non-official members of the Delhi Development Authority, MLA Mahabal Mishra and Councillor Virender Kasana, met Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy on Thursday and urged him not to introduce auction as the mode of disposal of middle income group and higher income group DDA flats in Delhi. The two Congress members asked the Minister to review the decision on auctioning MIG and HIG flats as this would take them beyond the reach of the common man and help property dealers in cornering them by forming cartels. Stating that DDA also had some social responsibilities and was not a builder alone, the duo said the move needed to be reviewed. Contending that Indira Gandhi all along had stood for providing housing to the poor and the middle class, Mr. Mishra said the "anti-people" decision now appeared to have been taken under the influence of some DDA officials who did not guide the Ministry properly. "We were assured by the Minister that he would look at the issue and are hopeful that it would be resolved to the benefit of all as the United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi is also inclined towards uplifting the poor and the middle class," said Mr. Mishra.
