NO-HOLDS-BARRED: Congress nominee for Makloor ZPTC Akula Lalitha Raghavender campaigning actively at Manik Bhandar tanda on Thursday.

NIZAMABAD: Makloor ZP Territorial Constituency is one of the prestigious constituencies for the Congress as its nominee, Akula Lalitha Raghavender is a close follower of the Minister for Rural Development, D. Srinivas, and one among three to four candidates who are likely to vie with each other for the ZP chairperson post if the Congress secures majority.

In the multi-cornered contest she is carrying out the campaign with much pomp and fanfare, while her rivals, Gopal Nagesh (TDP) and Srinivas Goud (TRS) are also making all out efforts to win the election. Though the BJP nominee, Swarna Gopal, is also in the field the main contest is among Congress, TDP and TRS. With just two days left for polling all the three candidates intensified their campaign by making door-to-door visits to meet voters personally. Being the immediate former president of Makloor Mandal Praja Parishad and ruling party candidate, Mrs. Lalitha appears to be ahead of her rivals in the campaign and is attracting voters.

She has an edge in the contest as there has been good response to her from the womenfolk.

Poll significant

However, she has reportedly been facing some "headaches" from Congress senior leaders, N.L. Narayana and Gannamaneni Bapu Rao as they are reportedly moving pawns in favour of Ms.Lalitha's opponents.

The election here assumes significance as political observers see it as an indirect fight between the Minister, D. Srinivas and Dichpally MLA, G. Ganga Reddy (TRS) in whose constituency the ZPTC falls.

Meanwhile, differences between the Minister and the Congress MLA, Bajireddy Govardhan and party leader, Mahesh Kumar Goud who joined the party recently may have a little impact on the election campaign and also on the outcome.

Mr. Govardhan and Mr. Ganga Reddy at a joint press conference on Wednesday openly criticised Mr. Srinivas that fielding the Congress nominees at Dichpally and Makloor was improper as the TRS opted for both ZP constituencies.
