NALGONDA: Tension prevailed at Bandaramaram village in Tungaturthy mandal following the activists of a political party raiding the houses of another party late on Thursday night.

According to reports reaching the headquarters, a mob created havoc in the village as a sequel to clashes on the polling day. The village was in the grip of tension for the last one week in the wake of the panchayat elections.

There was mild tension also at Kodur in Tungaturthy mandal as the Telugu Desam alleged that the name of the Congress nominee for the MPTC post, Sk.Rasheed, did not figure in the voter list. TDP candidate Srinu took objection to the officials' decision to allow him to cast challenging vote at 8.20 p.m on Wednesday. He said that the official had overruled his objection during the scrutiny.

Collector K.Vijayanand said that the Election Commission had given the green signal to conduct re-poll in 10 booths in the district. In addition to the four booths at Peddaravulapally and Kapraipally in Bhoodan Pochampally mandal, two booths at Adavidevulapally in Damaracharla mandal are also going for re-poll on June 30. The remaining four booths are located in Gundlapally in Mathampally mandal, Nemalipuri (Mellacheruvu), Seripally (Devarakonda) and Devarakonda town.

The Collector announced that 78.41 per cent voters had exercised their franchise. The division wise poll percentages are: Suryapet-79.9, Nalgonda-78.29, Bhongir-77.96 and Miryalaguda-77.58. While Chilukur recorded a maximum of 86.44%, Tirumalagiri recorded 70%. Meanwhile, the Telugu Desam and CPI (M) staged a dharna at the Collectorate in protest "against the poll irregularities committed by the Congress in collusion with the officials."
