MADURAI: The counterfeit currency case against Serina and three others has been transferred to the Organised Crime Wing of the Crime Branch-Crime Investigation Department (CB-CID). While the suspects were earlier accused of "possessing" the suspected fake currency, two more charges under Section 489 of the IPC that pertain to "printing" and "circulating" have been included. According to CB-CID sources, the investigators are waiting to take possession of the money (Rs. 1.4 crore) seized from Serina's house during 2003. Though a city court had ordered that the money be handed over to the agency for the purpose of investigation, the nationalised bank where it was deposited said the Reserve Bank of India was the competent authority to take a decision on drawing money from currency chest. "We are hopeful that the money will reach us within a week's time. After taking possession through the court, a team will visit the Currency Note Press in Nasik and obtain expert opinion from the Forgery Detection Cell on the genuineness of the money. Now that the case has been transferred to the Organised Crime Wing, a dedicated team will work on it," a CB-CID official said.
