Programme advocates a `zero investment business' model

CHENNAI: Singapore-based entrepreneurship education provider MMT Group is launching its operations in India in July with the introduction of a home study kit that will enable individuals to start businesses without making an investment.

The distinguishing feature of the 100-day home-study programme is the advocacy of a `zero investment business' model, which allows students to start a business in areas such as exports and imports, real estate and textile retailing.

The programme is targeted at students, youths and housewives, said Ranjith Baba, founder-CEO of RB Learning Technologies (RBLT) Group, which will make available the Entrepreneurship 101 home study kit in Tamil Nadu and other southern states. RBLT will launch the kit in eight Indian languages across the country by 2007.

The kit is priced between Rs.1,100 and Rs.1,500, depending on whether the package is standard or premium. While beginners are trained to operate small scale enterprises, advanced training modules and facilitation packages are available in modules such as stages of business expansion, going global and getting listed on a stock exchange, Mr. Baba said.

"The aim is to generate one million successful entrepreneurs in India by 2020," Mr. Baba said.

As many as 7,500 students, 40 per cent of them girls, have been trained in entrepreneurship. In Tamil Nadu, 4,000 students from institutions such as Anna University and Loyola College have undergone an orientation.

RBLT plans to tie up with educational institutions to train students and establish entrepreneurship cells in colleges. "The aim is to fill the gap in entrepreneurship education in colleges and generate employers rather than employees," said Mr. Baba.

RBLT Group is located at 822, 3rd Main Road, Ram Nagar South, Madipakkam, Chennai - 91. You can also contact them over the phone at 044 - 22584320 or e-mail them at baba@rbltg.com
