`Verbattle' for schoolchildren

Bangalore: "Verbattle 2006," an inter-school State-level debate tournament, has been organised by T.V. House, a media company.

It will be the first contest of its kind in India. It is aimed at providing a platform for students to express their views. The organisers plan to make it a national event in the future.

Rachel Ravi, manager (Creative and Business Solutions) of the firm, told presspersons here on Thursday that the competition was for students aged between 12 and 16.

"It will be a unique learning experience for the participants. It will push young minds towards creative expression," she said.

The event is scheduled to be held in the first week of August. The cash prize for the winning team is Rs. 1 lakh.

The last date for registrations is July 20 and the entry fee for a team is Rs. 500.
