Hyderabad : In a unique `writers in residence' programme, seven German authors are visiting seven different Indian cities and their Indian counterparts are touring German cities. This Indo-German project `Akshar', jointly sponsored by the Goethe Institute and Sahitya Akademie, aims at providing the writers a new insight into the affairs of their guest cities. The programme will culminate in the international book fair in Frankfurt in the first week of October. "The visiting authors will jot down their everyday experiences and put them online for anyone to access," said Amita Desai, executive director, German Centre. She told presspersons on Thursday that this was the first such programme where upcoming writers were going round different cities in India and Germany.
German writers
The German writers visiting Indian cities are Guy Helminger (Hyderabad), Sandra Hoffmann (Mumbai), Angela Kraub (Chennai), Kristof Magnusson (Pune), Martin Mosebach (Delhi), Georg Martin Oswald (Bangalore) and Josef Winkler (Kolkata). Mr. Helminger, who is visiting Hyderabad for the first time, said he was quite impressed with the city and its people. His observations of the city might finally end up in a novel, he said. He would take part in a poetry-reading programme on July 7 at Goeth Zentrum, Hill Fort Road, and on July 13, give a personal perspective of his Hyderabad dairy at University of Hyderabad, Gachibowli.
Indian writers
Indian writers visiting Germany are Adyasha Das, Bhupinder Parihar, Rajula Shah, Swapnamoy Chakraborti, Mahesh Dattani, Mogalli Ganesh and Maythili Radhakrishnan.
