Six-coach train showcases the growth of Life Insurance Corporation

LEARNING EXPERIENCE: School students aboard LIC's Zindagi Express, in Secunderabad on Thursday.

HYDERABAD: Jawaharlal `Chacha' Nehru launched `Yogakshema', one of Life Insurance Corporation's (LIC) earliest policies in 1957. In the same year, the Maharajah of Mysore bought an `equity' policy. Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi too had a policy with a sum assured of Rs. 1 lakh.

Certificates galore, of appreciation from luminaries like former Prime Ministers Morarji Desai and Indira Gandhi and former President Giani Zail Singh and a photograph of LIC's first board meeting after it was nationalised were also displayed.

These and more memories were displayed aboard LIC's `Zindagi Express', a six-coach train that left New Delhi on April 26, 2006 and reached Secunderabad on Thursday noon.

First attempt

Said to be the first attempt to showcase LIC since nationalisation in 1957, `Zindagi Express' was received and later thrown open for public by P.C. Kumar, Additional General Manager, South Central Railway, in the presence of Sudhir Mittal, Divisional Railway Manager, Secunderabad.

A host of senior officials from LIC including Zonal Manager (South Central Zone) T. Chattopadhyay and Regional Managers K. Ganesh (Marketing) and H.S. Shashi Kumar (Corporate Communications) showed the dignitaries around the exhibition.

Lucky draws

A medical camp was on and hourly lucky draws started with colour televisions, DVD and CD players for the lucky winners. `Zindagi Express' leaves Secunderabad railway station at about 6 p.m. on Friday. Admission is free.
