Notices served on rice mills

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: The Kerala State Pollution Control Board has served notices on rice mills discharging untreated effluents in Okkal panchayat.

The Board has instructed such mills to stop operation and install equipment for effluent treatment.

A meeting of rice mills was held at the office of the Pollution Control Board in March this year when the mills were asked to initiate measures for effluent treatment.

The Board officials detected non-compliance on a recent inspection of the mills.

The notices have been served on the basis of the official inspection.

The mills have been asked to get the permission of the Board after complying with the rules.
