BMIC: Congress favours legislation

Special Correspondent

Bangalore: The issue of the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project being executed by Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises Ltd. (NICE) on Thursday took a new turn with the Congress urging the Government to bring in the legislation it was talking of.

The former Speaker Ramesh Kumar was fielded by the Congress to drive home the party's stand on the matter. While the Janata Dal (S) is keen on the legislation, the BJP is opposed to it. Participating in the debate on the issue in the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Ramesh Kumar said the Congress was also keen on looking into the proposed Bill. "Let the legislature look into the merits and de-merits of the Bill and thereafter take a decision. Further, the Congress is also in favour of taking backing the excess land given for the project." Kheny attends meeting

Even as the Assembly was discussing the issue of legislation, managing director of NICE Ashok Kheny attended a high-level meeting at the Vidhana Soudha. The meeting was chaired by Chief Secretary B.K. Das. Mr. Kheny later said that he would start work on the project from the Mysore end.
