KOCHI: Paper work for getting financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for five city corporations in the State is fast progressing, with the Kerala Sustainable Urban Development Programme (KSUDP) completing a major portion of the work. A meeting of Mayors and KSUDP officials at Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday finalised pre-qualification of contractors for taking up works and procedures of procurement of material for the projects. The finalised processes and procedures would be forwarded to the ADB headquarters at Manila for approval, KSUDP officials said.
Nodal agency
The KSUDP is functioning as a nodal agency for ADB aid for the five corporations. It has approached the Finance Department for obtaining clearance for creating project management and implementation units for the ADB-supported projects. Though the State Government will be creating posts in these units, the civic bodies will appoint experts.
Funds break-up
The financial inputs for various components of the corporations were finalised at the meeting. According to latest figures, Kochi will get Rs. 202.47 crores for various projects, including Rs. 46.44 crores for water supply scheme, Rs. 100.9 crores for sewerage and sanitation and Rs. 15.03 crores for urban drainage programme. The solid-waste management programme for the city will get a financial support of Rs. 14.36 crores and road development projects Rs. 25.74 crores, it was announced at the meeting.
