Low Vision clinic inaugurated

Staff Reporter

Thiruvananthapuram: A Low Vision Aid testing and rehabilitation centre has started functioning at the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology here.

Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy inaugurated the new facility on Wednesday.

Low Vision clinic would be run twice weekly at the hospital. The District Blindness Control Society has set up the testing equipment at the hospital with Central assistance.

Low vision means sight impairment, which cannot be adequately corrected with pharmaceutical or surgical interventions, conventional prescription eyewear, or contact lenses. This could be owing to aging, injury, birth defects or complications from diseases.

Inaugurating the new facility, the Minister stressed on the importance of organ donation and the need to create more awareness about the same among the public.
