Bail for Home Minister's son

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: District and Sessions Judge D. Pappachan on Thursday ordered the release of Bineesh Kodiyeri, son of Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, on bail if the petitioner surrenders before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court within two weeks. The direction comes in the wake of a petition filed by Mr. Bineesh, seeking anticipatory bail in connection with a case relating to the forcible release of student activists from police custody in 2004. A warrant had been issued by the CJM in connection with the case earlier. The court noted that there is no necessity of a custodial interrogation or pre-trial detention of the petitioner as the investigation in the case is over and a final report has been filed in the court. — Staff Reporter

Protest by retired teachers

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Retired Teachers Congress has protested against the withdrawal of the one rank one pension scheme announced in the pension revision scheme through the order dated June 8. The State committee of the organisation, which met here on Thursday also took exception to the blocking of the stage fixation. — Special Correspondent
