New law university in Bihar

New Delhi: The Bihar Government has established a new law university, Chankya National Law University (CNLU) to provide quality legal education on the lines of national law schools in Hyderabad and Bangalore.

The CNLU has already commenced work at the A.N. Sinha Institute of Social Studies campus, Gandhi Maidan, Patna. The State Government has identified and proposed to set up the university at a sprawling campus of nearly 20 acres in the Mithapur area of Patna.

The university will launch its B.A.LL.B. (Hons) five-year integrated course in the first instance and will start the LL.M and Ph.D. courses subsequently. Classes for the first semester of B.A.LL.B course will commence on August 14. Admission for this course will be strictly on merit through an all-India entrance test to be held on July 23 at Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Patna and Ranchi.

Prof. A. Lakshmikanth, Dean and Registrar of NALSAR, Hyderabad has been appointed as the Director of CNLU, which will be equipped with state-of-the-art library buildings, Internet centres etc., a press release from the university said.
