Fiftyone holders of the Nobel Prize have called on all nations to give up the use of force because "science has given humanity the means to destroy itself." The Nobel Prize winners, who concluded a congress at Lindau (West Germany) on June 29, said the weapons could spread over the earth so much radio-activity that entire people would be exterminated. All nations must renounce voluntarily the use of force as the ultimate means of policy; otherwise they will cease to exist. After the congress, one of the delegates, Sir C.V. Raman, told journalists he thought that atomic weapon tests had an influence on atmospheric conditions.
