Differential fee structure for private schools soon

Staff Correspondent

The fee will be based on the quality of teaching and infrastructure the institutions offer

  • `Government stand on fee structure is not clear'
  • Grants sought for permanently unaided institutions

Bidar: The Government will fix a differential fee structure for private schools and colleges in the district on the lines of the system of admission to professional colleges.

The fees will vary from institution to institution depending on the quality of teaching and infrastructure they offered, according to Deputy Commissioner Munish Moudgil.

Addressing a meeting of representatives from private schools and colleges here on Thursday, he urged the managements and parents to follow the guidelines introduced by the Government.

The representatives said that they could not run schools and colleges without donations. They demanded that the Government drop the method of allowing schools and colleges to remain as "permanently unaided institutions". They urged the Government revise the fee structure fixed for school and college education.

"The fees fixed by the Government are too low. Most of us run unaided institutions. We cannot pay teachers well if the new fee structure is adopted. If the Government wants us to provide quality education, it should let us collect reasonably high fees," Chandrashekar S., secretary of the Vidya College said.

Basava Tatva Shikshan Samsthe president Basavaraj Tambake said the Government's stand on the fee structure was not clear. He demanded that the Government release grants even to permanently unaided institutions.

Some representatives accused each other of collecting huge sums of money from students and not providing quality education.

Deputy Director of Public Instruction S. Devananda, and the Deputy Director of Pre-University Board R. Mahadevappa were present.
