Indian juniors leave for Kuala Lumpur

BANGALORE: A 12-member junior Indian squad, spearheaded by Philippines Open women's singles champion, Saina Nehwal, left for Kuala Lumpur on Friday, for the junior Asian badminton championship which gets underway from July 3.

The coach, Sanjiv Sachdeva was very optimistic about a good Indian performance in the week-long tournament. He told The Hindu, "I expect Saina to win the girls' singles title, given her recent track record and good form. Among boys, Jishnu Sanyal, who reached the last 16 round in the last edition of the tournament, should do well."

Regarding prospects in the team event, Sachdeva felt India stood a chance of finishing with a medal.

The teams: Boys: Jishnu Sanyal, Srujan Nandalluri, Akshay Diwalkar, Arun Vishnu, Ram C. Vijay and Arun Nandaluri.

Girls: Saina Nehwal, Ruth Misha, Gayathri Vartak, Nitya Sosale, Ashwini Ponnappa and G.M. Nischitha.

Coaches: Sanjiv Sachdeva and S. Balachandran Nair.
