NEW DELHI: Heart Care Foundation of India (HCFI) and Federation of NCR Doctors (FOND) will organise a free executive health check-up camp this Sunday as part of their commitment to the community. "Doctor's Day is celebrated on July 1 in remembrance of Dr. B. C. Roy. It is a day that should remind doctors of their commitment to the profession,'' said Heart Care Foundation of India president K. K. Aggarwal at a press conference here on Friday. "At the camp, patients will get free consultation for diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, osteoporosis and heart disease. Those who require further check-ups will receive a highly subsidised executive health laboratory check-up for a nominal registration fee of Rs.260. Laboratory check-ups will include complete lipid profile, haemoglobin and tests for liver, kidney and diabetes. The reports of these tests will be provided on the spot,'' Dr. Aggarwal added. The health check-up camp will be held at the HCFI premises in East of Kailash. Dr. Aggarwal also announced that FOND in association with the Indian Medical Association and the A. K. N. Sinha Institute would organise a three-month "cardiology update'' for family physicians. A series of lectures by eminent doctors will be conducted for two hours every Saturday at the IMA headquarters on Indraprastha Marg. Escorts Heart Institute's Cath Lab Director T. S. Kler said Doctor's Day was a day when all medical professionals need to take stock of where they stand through constructive self-criticismIn a symbolic gesture to reinforce the triad of care, communication and competence, Bharatnatyam exponent Geeta Chandran, Dr. Kler and Dr. Aggarwal exchanged bouquets at the conference. "Expectations from doctors have increased manifold, especially in a city like Delhi. Today the role of a doctor is not just to look after the physical fitness and well-being of a patient. A doctor has to communicate with his patient and care for him like a friend. On Doctor's Day, the public should go to their doctors and thank them for their services,'' said Ms. Chandran.
