Bangalore: Puma Sports India on Thursday opened a mega mart for its internationally branded apparel, shoes and accessories on CMH Road in Indiranagar here. This is the second outlet after the one in Chennai, which was started recently. Rajiv Mehta, Managing Director, Puma Sports India, said the company would be opening around 10 marts, including in Delhi, Mumbai, Chandigarh and Hyderabad. He said the company's strategy was to focus on sport, lifestyle and fashion, but to start with in India it was venturing into the field of sport and lifestyle. He said Bangaloreans had a taste for internationally branded items and provided a good launch pad for the company. Twelve teams out of the 32 participating in the FIFA World Cup were wearing the Puma brand of sports gear, he added.
Contest winner
Varun Sharma has won the Security Shootout contest organised by Microsoft Corporation. After competing with over 11,200 software developers from across India and undergoing three strenuous rounds of secure coding, Mr. Sharma's prize was a customised Scorpio Passion SUV. Security Shootout was designed specially for the growing developer community in the country. The initiative was aimed at providing budding developers with an opportunity to gain knowledge on how to write secure code and develop secure software applications. Security Shootout is part of Microsoft's ongoing security mobilisation efforts under which it works closely with partners and customers to promote software security. Vimal Rajyaguru and Ashwath Govindan emerged as first and second runner-up respectively and were presented a Toshiba M4 laptop each. Over 7,500 prizes were won by the participants, including pocket PC's and 80GB USB 2.0 powered external hard disk drives. Also, the top 500 participants received security certification vouchers, which will help them hone their code development skills. Through this initiative, Microsoft is also making a collection of security resources available to developers, such as webcasts, blogs, articles, white papers and books.
Opens R&D centre
Electronic Design Automation (EDA) start-up ArchPro Design Automation announced its expansion in Bangalore with the opening of its research and development centre here. ArchPro Chairman Pratap Reddy said, "Power is the most pressing problem facing the integrated chip design industry today. We have been engineering cutting-edge power management technology and products out of our Bangalore R&D centre." Inaugurating the centre, Puneet Jethalia, Managing Director of ArchPro said, "The new facility is capable of housing 75 engineers. We started with a small team to begin with and have grown since. We now plan to grow rapidly in the next 12 months."
