Andhra beats Kerala

VISAKHAPATNAM: Host Andhra prevailed 18-17 over Kerala in a men's round-robin match in the 23rd South India senior kabaddi championships for the Minister's Cup here. In another match, Tamil Nadu recorded a 54-23 win over Hyderabad. In the women's section, Tamil Nadu swamped Pondicherry 91-19 and Andhra defeated Kerala 46-19 to record their second consecutive wins.

Other results: Men: Tamil Nadu bt Kerala 58-10; Karnataka bt Hyderabad 43-23; Women: Tamil Nadu bt Kerala 63-23.

IIC `A' wins title

IIC `A' defeated CFS `A' 25-18, 25-23 in the volleyball final of the GE Championship Cup sports meet held at Railway Grounds in Hyderabad.

The results: Football: Semifinals: IIC `A' bt CFS A 2-1; CFS `B' bt Energy 3-1. Basketball: Final: CFS `A' bt CFS `B' 50-14. Semifinals: CFS `B' bt Energy 14-0; CFS `A' bt IIC 20-0.

Volleyball: Final: CFS `A' bt IIC A 25-18, 25-23. Semifinals: CFS `A' bt BGGTS `B' 25-22, 25-16; IIC `A' bt IIC B 25-10, 25-17.

Cricket tournament postponed

Andhra Cricket Association (Central Zone) u-19 inter-district tournament for S.V.H. Giridhar Trophy has been postponed to July 2 due to the prevalent inclement weather. The tournament has been postponed twice before and the organisers had reduced the two-day event to one-dayers. The u-19 inter-zonal tournament would be held from July 12 to 29, in which three teams from three zones will participate. ACA team for the Cooch Behar Trophy, will be selected during the event.
