  • Security to be particularly tight at 200 and odd hypersensitive villages

NELLORE: Over 14.7 lakh voters will exercise their franchise on Sunday, under tight security cover bolstered by mobile vans, alerts and check posts at border mandals, to elect 45 Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) and 581 Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) members in the district.

Outlining the security measures, District Collector M. Ravi Chandra and Superintendent of Police N. Security would be particularly beefed up at 200 and odd hypersensitive villages across the district, they told reporters on Friday.

"As many as 214 route mobile parties with head constable and police constable, 46 mandal mobile parties headed by sub inspector, 46 striking forces headed by Circle Inspector and 16 special striking forces headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police will be deployed for the smooth conduct of elections."

    93 zones

Moreover, 93 zones have been formed and each zonal officer along with a police officer and a videographer would monitor the elections. The zonal officers have been vested with the magisterial powers on the poll day, the Collector said.

The police made special arrangements to ensure peaceful polling in the naxal-affected areas of Seetharampuram, Udayagiri, Dakkili, Pattapupalem and a few other border mandals in the district. "Measures have been taken to deal with any kind of law and order problem," the SP said.
