Kerala takes title

CHENNAI: Kerala came up with a late fight to defeat Maharashtra 26-24 in the final and retain the title in the junior National girls handball championship, which concluded here on Friday.
Down 11-14 at half time and trailing till virtually the last quarter of the match, Kerala made a spirited comeback, thanks to some smart scoring by skipper and India international M. Sruthi. She topscored with 11 goals. She got good support from Sandhya and Neetu.
Earlier, Chhattisgarh defeated Uttar Pradesh 17-15 to clinch the third place.
Result: Final: Kerala 26 (Shruthi 11, Neetu 5, Sandhya 4) bt Maharashtra 24 (Beena 11).
