`Polls in tribal areas subject to final orders'
Legal Correspondent
HYDERABAD:
A Division Bench of the High Court on Friday declared that the elections to local bodies being held in the scheduled tribal areas would be subject to final orders in a writ petition filed in the court.
The Bench admitted a writ petition filed by Gondwana Panchayat, Nangara Bheri and Tudum Debba. The petitioners complained that non-provision of full reservation at all levels of the local bodies in favour of tribal communities in scheduled areas was violative of the Constitution.
They said that rules framed for the elections do not refer to specific safeguards pertaining to tribal areas. The Bench declared "we are prima facie satisfied that the issues raised need serious consideration by the Bench."
