Leak plugged, water supply restored

Staff Reporter

There was no water supply in the area for one week

BANGALORE: Drinking water had become scarce for over 2,000 residents of Kengeri Satellite Town near the city for the past one week. The residents had been deprived of their daily water supply (both through the Cauvery lines and the public taps) thanks to a huge water pipeline burst in the area.

Officials from the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) finally got the leak plugged on Friday after gallons of water had been wasted and residents were put to hardship. "We used to get Cauvery water on alternate days through individual connections and borewell water through public taps. But for the last one week there was no supply and repeated complaints to the authorities were in vain," Panduranga, an affected resident, said.

Though the residents of Shirke Colony in front of the Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) office complained to the authorities about the pipeline burst, no efforts were made to plug the leak. "It is unfortunate that the authorities did nothing to plug the leak and stop water wastage," he said.

When contacted, the jurisdictional BWSSB executive engineer Narayan said that the leak was detected in the pipeline that supplied water to the houses from one of the four borewells in the area. "Though the borewells are run and maintained by the Kengeri Town Municipal Council (TMC), we attended to the problem and plugged the leak on Friday," he said.
