Pulses to be sold at lower rates

New Delhi: Seeking to control the soaring prices of pulses in the Capital, Delhi Government will provide the essential food item at substantially lower rates from Saturday.

The decision to provide pulses at lower rates in all 70 circles of the Food and Civil Supplies Department was taken at a meeting between Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and wholesalers' associations on Friday evening, an official spokesman said.

Two varieties of pulses -- `Urad Dhuli' and `Moong Dhuli' -- will be made available at Rs 38 per kg. While `Urad Dhuli' is available in the open market at Rs 54 per kg, `Moong Dhuli' is being sold at Rs 52 per kg.

Prices of essential commodities, especially vegetables and pulses, have seen a sharp upswing in the Capital in the last month.
