Bangalore: Thirty-two legislators and members of the Board of Director of Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) have represented to Governor T.N. Chaturvedi about the extension of term given to Vice-Chancellor K. Sudha Rao. They have also written to Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy about the extension in services given to Dr. Rao overlooking complaints from social organisations, educationist and the KSOU Employees' Union. Among other issues, no new course was started in KSOU in the last three years and the number of students enrolled had come down, they said.
No new study centres
No new study centres were started or grants obtained from the Centre to enhance facilities at the university. The duration of certain courses like MBA had been reduced overlooking the University Grants Commission norms and students were admitted for postgraduate courses only one the basis of their age. Some courses like B.Sc., and M.Sc. in Information Technology, which had good demand, had been discontinued. The Government had formed a search committee to finalise names for the new Vice-Chancellor to be considered by the Governor. Meanwhile, the extension in tenure by one year was granted. Signatories to the memorandum included C.S. Puttaraju, G.V. Sreerama Reddy, C.M. Srinivas, Mir Azeez Ahmed, Quazi Arshad Ali, Mallarajamma, R.V. Venkatesh and K.B. Munivenkata Reddy.
