DDA sells four sites

for Rs.45 crore.

NEW DELHI: In the first auction of school and nursing home sites, the Delhi Development Authority on Friday sold two school sites and two nursing home sites for a total consideration of over Rs 45 crores.

The highest price of all the plots was fetched by a school plot in Dwarka. The two-acre plot went under the hammer for about Rs. 19.87 crores. Another school plot of the same size in Narela received a bid amount of about Rs.8.74 crores.

Of the nursing homes, a plot measuring 0.276 hectares in Narela sold for Rs 3.93 crores while another one of 720 square metres in Rohini fetched DDA a sum of Rs 3.21 crores. However, neither of the plots went much above the reserved price, indicating that either the minimum price had been deliberately kept high or they evinced little interest from prospective buyers.

Eight injured in

boiler blast

NEW DELHI: Eight persons were injured when a boiler exploded in a scrap-dismantling unit at Shahdara on Friday. Two of the injured are stated to be serious.

According to the Fire Department, the accident took place around 1-30 p.m. Two fire tenders were pressed into service and the blaze was brought under control within 30 minutes. The injured where rushed to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital where two of them, Ram Vikas and Arvind, were reported to be serious. Ram Vikas sustained 90 per cent burns, while Arvind had 60 per cent burns.

Four Bangladeshi arrested

NEW DELHI: Four Bangladesh nationals have been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police for allegedly killing a boy from their country at Mehrauli in South Delhi five years ago. At their instance the police claim to have recovered the remains of the deceased.

Acting on a tip-off that Haroon, Alamgir, Rahil and Mohammad Hassan had murdered Nasir and buried his body behind Haroon's house at Mehrauli, the police arrested them on Thursday. Nasir used to work as a domestic help for Haroon. Once Nasir misbehaved with Haroon's wife, at which latter decided to eliminate Nasir.

New Judge of High Court appointed

NEW DELHI: Aruna Suresh has been appointed Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court, an official release said here on Friday.

Ms. Justice Suresh will hold office for a period of two years with effect from the date she assumes charge of her office, it added.

Bail granted in marksheet case

NEW DELHI: A City Court on Friday granted bail to a student arrested for allegedly using a fake marksheet to secure admission in Delhi University college.

Metropolitan Magistrate Siddharth Sharma, accepting the defence plea that he did not have any past criminal record, enlarged Abhishek Gaur on bail on furnishing a surety and personal bond of Rs.25,000 each.

The Court observed that being a student, the accused should not be forced to stay in the company of hardened criminals in custody.

New DG of Tihar Jail

NEW DELHI: B.K. Gupta, an Indian Police Service officer of the 1975 batch, assumed charge as Director-General of Tihar Central Jail here on Friday, replacing R.P. Singh who has retired.

Mr. Gupta was earlier posted as Special Commissioner of Police (Security and Armed Police).
