Power supply hit in Alappuzha

Staff Reporter

ALAPPUZHA: Power supply had been affected in Alappuzha district during the last two days. Though rain was moderate during the last 24 hours and damaged to property was less, power supply in the town was disrupted for 15 hours from Thursday night to Friday afternoon, according to an official release. Even on Saturday, supply was intermittent in a major part of the town. Several electrical posts fell and power lines snapped in many places.

The public complained that the Kerala State Electricity Board failed to respond to their complaints.

Alappuzha municipal chairman P.P. Chitharanjan said the municipality would convene a meeting of Board officials next week to discuss the situation. The officials said staff shortage was hindering repairs. Supply was disrupted in Mavelikkara, Kayamkulam and Cherthala Assembly constituencies. The eastern part of Cherthala municipality was hit by power disruption on Saturday.

The Mavelikkara constituency committee of the Youth Congress voiced its protest at the frequent power disruption and voltage fluctuation in the region.
