CPI condemns arrest of Palestinian leaders by Israel

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Communist Party of India MPs have urged Israel to immediately release all arrested Palestinian Ministers and MPs and withdraw its forces from the Gaza strip.

In a letter to Israel Ambassador David Danieli, the MPs said they were "aghast" at Tel Aviv's latest massive military offensive in the Gaza strip. During the raids, the "invading" Israeli forces arrested almost one-third of the Palestinian Council of Ministers and a large number of MPs, they said.

"It is obvious that the Israeli forces are bent upon destroying the elected government of Palestine. The arrests are a blatant violation of all international laws and norms."

Signatories to the letter include CPI Parliamentary Party leader Gurudas Dasgupta, Sudhakar Reddy, Ajoy Chakraborty, C.K. Chandrappan, Prabodh Panda, K. Subbarayan, Changa Surendran, Bhubneswar Meheta, M. Appadurai, P. Rabindran, Azeez Pasha and K.E. Ismail.
