Kharar: A local court here remanded former SAD Minister Suchcha Singh Langah's son Sukhwinder Singh, along with four others, in 14-day judicial custody in the case of attempt to murder of a policeman on duty and related charges. Sukhwinder, along with his friends, was arrested early on Friday from outside a restaurant in S A S Nagar for allegedly trying to crush a policeman under wheels of their vehicle, besides assaulting and obstructing officials on duty. Dismissing objections by a strong battery of defence lawyers, sub-divisional Judicial Magistrate Poonam Ratti directed to lodge Sukhwinder, Sukhvir Singh Dhillon (son of local Truck Operator Union president Ranbir Singh Dhillon), Gursimran Singh, Gursharan Singh and Amardeep Singh in Ropar jail before producing them again before the court here on July 15. The court however, conceded the defence request to get the accused medically examined by a board of doctors in Kharar Civil Hospital to look into the allegations of torture and inhuman treatment by the police. Earlier, the prosecution stated in the jam-packed court that the accused had tried to crush Constable Harnek Singh under the wheels of their vehicle after assaulting him. UNI
