TAMBARAM: The Alandur Municipality on Friday passed a unanimous resolution urging the State government to bifurcate the Tambaram taluk and create a new taluk for Alandur. Municipal Chairman R.S. Bharathi said a similar resolution was passed in 1998 and forwarded to the State government but could not be implemented due to various reasons, most importantly on the grounds of the 2001 census.
Bifurcation
According to Mr. Bharathi, bifurcation of the vast Tambaram taluk and a new taluk for Alandur would not only benefit residents of this municipality, but other residents in nearby local bodies and in the city, chiefly Tiruvanmiyur and K.K. Nagar. He said residents of the municipality that came under the jurisdiction of the taluk had to travel till Tambaram for even minor jobs. The creation of a new taluk that would cover the jurisdiction of the Alandur judicial magistrate and civil courts would benefit a few lakh residents, Mr. Bharathi said.
