YET TO BE COMMISSIONED FOR THE RECORD: A file picture of the water being released from the Alamatti Dam.
BIJAPUR: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Sunday said the 3-km Korthi-Kolhar bridge across the Krishna would be inaugurated after Legislature session. His announcement came during the interactions he held with the district journalists through videoconferencing. Referring to the repeated postponement of the inauguration of the bridge considered as longest in South India, he said the delay was not due to any politics but want of time. A date for the inauguration would be fixed after the session, he said. He announced that a formal dedication of Alamatti Dam would be done by either President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam or Prime Minister Manmohan Singh this year. Although the dam had been operational for five years, its formal dedication could not be done because of differences among political parties over who should be invited for the same. Asked about the delay in Bijapur-Gadag gauge conversion work, a joint venture project, he said the State Government was ready to release its share of the project cost. He had met Railway Minister (Lalu Prasad) twice and urged him to expedite all railway projects in the State, including the Bijapur-Gadag line gauge conversion. Mr. Kumarswamy said the coalition regime had taken a number of steps to tap the tourism potential in the north Karnataka region including Bijapur city. BLDE Association's Engineering College was the venue of the videoconferencing.
