Letters to the Editor
This refers to the editorial "What Balasingham should understand" (June 29). If the LTTE has no role in Rajiv Gandhi's assassination, why should Anton Balasingham appeal to India to be magnanimous and put the past behind it? Is he speaking on behalf of the killers and, if so, why? The Centre and the Tamil Nadu Government should differentiate between the Sri Lankan Tamils' issue and the power-hungry LTTE. While it is important to be sympathetic to the plight of the Tamils, the Tigers should be left to the Sri Lankan Government to tackle.
R.M. Manoharan,
* * * It is the normal practice of the Tigers to deny their involvement in bombings and indulge in doublespeak. Mr. Balasingham's expression of regret is only meant to activate their sympathisers in Tamil Nadu and encourage the Tamil diaspora elsewhere to take notice.
A.T. Thiruvengadam,
* * * Magnanimity towards the LTTE is too much to ask even from a nation known for its magnanimity.
Jims Andrews,
* * * Mr. Balasingham's impudent statements look more like a warning than a plea. His expectation that Indians will put the past behind them, that is forgive the Tigers for their role in Rajiv Gandhi's assassination, is atrocious. No patriotic Indian will forgive them, ever.
S. Gangadharan,
* * * It is clear from Mr. Balasingham's statement that the LTTE was behind Rajiv's assassination. The incident has left an indelible mark in our minds and cannot be forgotten.
H. Abdul Hadi,
