Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD: After a long and demanding exercise, the Andhra Pradesh Government had decided to enhance the tuition fee for engineering, pharmacy and architecture courses by Rs. 4,000 thus taking the fee of Category `A' seats to Rs. 26,000 and Category `B' to Rs. 79,000. The new fee would be valid for the academic years 2006-07, 2007-08 and 2008-09. However, existing students would continue to pay previous year's fee till they complete their course.
80 per cent
The `A' category seats will have 80 per cent of the total seats and would be filled by the Convenor while the `B' category ones would be filled by the managements with 15 per cent earmarked for the NRIs and five per cent for students from other States under the national integration quota. The managements will have the option of admitting students who have not taken EAMCET, but they should have scored a minimum of 60 per cent in Intermediate or its equivalent examination. Asutosh Mishra, Principal Secretary, Higher Education and Member Secretary Fee Fixation Committee said that an additional fee of Rs. 2,000 per annum would be allowed to be collected from each student for the courses accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). It would be valid for both `A' and `B' seats. The Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) Secretary M.D. Christopher said that the idea of introducing additional Rs. 2,000 was to encourage the colleges to go for accreditation that showcases quality. He said 36 out of 1,350 courses in different colleges have been accredited by the NBA. The Convenor himself would collect the additional fee while the APSCHE would send the list to him.
Capitation fee
He said the college managements should not charge any capitation fee except the fee fixed by the committee. Any additional amount charged by the colleges under any head would be considered as capitation fee.
