Tension in Golden Temple, edict against Akali leader
Amritsar:
Head priests of the Akal Takht issued an edict on Sunday barring radical Akali leader Simranjit Singh Mann from religious functions after his supporters allegedly roughed up Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Avtar Singh Makkar inside the Golden Temple here.
The SGPC was observing the 400th foundation day of the Akal Takht in Harmandir Sahib, where the Shiromani Akali Dal (Mann) chief and activists of other Sikh organisations were present. The trouble erupted after Mr. Mann was not allowed to speak from the podium set up by the SGPC, and his supporters "manhandled" Mr. Makkar and brandished swords, SGPC sources said. PTI
