Power shutdown

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended in Sowcarpet West, Sowcarpet, East, Tondiarpet, Toll Gate, Mangadu and Pallavaram between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for maintenance work on July 4. Supply will be resumed before 5 p.m. if the work is completed.

BSNL discount scheme

BSNL, Chennai Telephones has announced a discount scheme to customers with unsettled dues for more than two years. This will be available from August 1 to October 31 this year. The discount rates are as follows:

Two to four years - 10 percent; four to six years - 12 percent; six to eight years - 15 percent and eight years and above - 20 percent. This scheme is applicable to State Government departments, corporations, local bodies and public undertakings also.

Health camp

Durgabai Deshmukh General Hospital and Research Centre, Andhra Mahila Sabha, RA Puram, will be conducting a free health camp for people above 55 years. Consultation for all ailments relating to old age will be available till July 31, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. except on Sundays. To make an appointment, call 24938311.

Sevalaya's gesture

Sevalaya recently celebrated its 18th Annual Day. The chief guest B. Jayaraman of the Lions Club announced a donation of 2 lakh for higher education expenses for the children of Sevalaya, Rs 6 lakh every year for food expenses, two colour TV sets, two free cable connections and two sets of uniforms for the 800 children of Sevalaya's Mahakavi Bharathiyar Higher Secondary School.

Chandi Homam

Sri Chandi Homam will be performed by V. Mohan at the Sri Venugopalaswamy Temple, Gopalapuram on July 11 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Rehabilitation of alcoholics

Punnar Jeevan de Addiction Rehabilitation Project of Wisdom Medical Research Foundation has formed a team to rehabilitate alcoholics and drug addicts through house visits and phone counselling.

Man held for cheating

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police arrested a person on charges of cheating. S. Sengalvaroyan (41), a jeweller from NSC Bose Road, filed a complaint with the CCB stating that he had paid Rs. 10 lakh in cash and 5kg of gold to D. Deepak Kumar Jain and his brother D. Ashok Kumar Jain for acquiring a 3,800 sqft property in Alwarpet, police said. However, after the transaction, he did not get

the property as promised. Following this Mr.Sengalvaroyan filed a complaint.

On Friday police arrested Ashok Kumar Jain while Deepak was absconding police said.

Further investigation is on.
