Walk the ramp to get noticed

Staff Reporter

Model hunt competition organised in city

  • The event was organised to provide a platform for youngsters
  • 80 participants registered for the contest

BANGALORE: For the young, wannabe stars of Bangalore, fashion is of course, the big way to walk the ramp and get noticed. When such an opportunity came calling at the Bangalore Central complex, most grabbed it. The name of the game was a model hunt competition organised as part of "Youth Buzz," the mall's youth festival.

The judges for the talent show were fashion photographer Wasim and models Shakeel and Ritu Mazumdar. The event was choreographed by Sridhar.

Providing entertainment for the youngsters and a platform for the young talent, were the motives behind the contest. And, of course, brand promotion was an intention too, going by the event sponsors.

The parameters for judging the competition were based on poise, physical attributes, dress sense, presentation and audience interaction. The event had 80 participant registrations. Of them, 40 qualified for the semi-finals. Eventually, 17 contestants — 10 men and seven women— made the finals of the event.

The competition was conducted in three rounds. The first round had a colourful ethnic wear section, where the male contestants sashayed on the ramp in their immaculate sherwanis and were soon taken over by the women in their ethnic skirts and top.

The second round hit denim territory, with the young men and women ruling the ramp in their denim casual wear. Western formal wear was the medium to impress in the fourth and final round.

Karishma, who emerged as the winner, was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 50,000. A 12th standard student, Ms. Karishma was on cloud nine for obvious reasons.

"I am very happy and with the crowd cheering me on, it did not matter whether I won or lost. It was a very exciting experience," she said.

The second runner-up, Prasanth, pocketed Rs. 10,000. Having completed his MBBS degree,, he had decided to practise medicine as well as continue with modelling. "I shall try my luck with Gladrags. Winning this competition is great," he said.

Next week, the competition there enters Salsa zone. Be ready to shake the legs for some Salsa beats.
