Man arrested, vehicle seized

BANGALORE: Commercial Street Police have arrested a man on the charge of vehicle theft and recovered a goods vehicle.

They also detected a case of theft and resale of another goods vehicle.

The police gave the name of the accused as Aslam Khan alias Aslam (22), resident of Bylnarasapura, Hoskote taluk. The police said the accused had tampered with the engine and chassis numbers of the vehicle.

The accused told the police that he and Ashwaq alias Ashu had stolen another goods vehicle and sold it after tampering with its engine and chassis numbers. The value of stolen vehicles was put at Rs. 10 lakh.

City Market Police have arrested five persons in connection with a robbery attempt near Old Tharagupet Cross and recovered lethal weapons on Friday.

The police gave the names of the accused as Rangaiah (50), resident of Torehalli, Gubbi taluk, Somaiah (21), resident of Sonaba village, Pandavapura taluk, Sharanappa (24), resident of Kembhavi village, Surapura taluk, Mallikarjuna (22), resident of Gandhi Bazaar, Thirthalli, and Krishna (22), resident of Ramdurga, Ananthapur district in Andhra Pradesh.

Five injured

Five members of a private hostel suffered injuries after a quarrel broke out between the students and a group of people in Madiwala Police Station limits on Saturday.

It was said the five were returning to the hostel after dinner around 12.30 a.m. when the quarrel broke out between them and the group.

It was said the five teased women. The students, who assaulted the group, were attacked in retaliation by the latter.

Windowpanes of the hostel building were damaged in the attack. The matter was reportedly settled with the students being let off with a warning.
