Doctors seek Kalam's intervention

New Delhi: A group of pro-reservation doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has requested President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam's intervention to ensure strict implementation of reservation and end to `victimisation' of reserved category students and doctors at the institute.

Reacting to the gherao of the sub-dean of the institute, Medicos Forum for Equal Opportunities has called upon the President to exercise his moral authority and ask the Union Government to stop vacillating on the issue of reservation which has only fuelled upper caste chauvinism.

In a statement, the Forum alleged that doctors and students of reserved category were being discriminated against in the institute and victimised and demanded an end to it.

Two killed in accident at Sarita Vihar

NEW DELHI: Two young men were killed when the mini-bus they were travelling in hit another mini-bus at Sarita Vihar in South Delhi on Sunday. The erring driver has been arrested.

The accident occurred on Noida Road around 9-30 a.m. when the mini-bus driven by Manoj, a resident of Madanpur Khadar village, hit another vehicle. Two of the passengers, later identified as Virender Sharma (23) and Rajesh (25), fell from the vehicle due to the impact of the collision and came under its wheels.

They were rushed to hospital where they were declared dead on arrival. The police have arrested Manoj.

Security guard electrocuted

NEW DELHI: A 45-year-old security guard was reportedly electrocuted inside the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) campus at Mehrauli in South Delhi on Sunday.

According to the police, the incident took place around 10-15 a.m. when Bindeshwar, who worked as a security guard at the Paryavaran complex of the IGNOU campus, died from electrocution.

Blueline bus catches fire

NEW DELHI: A CNG-run Blueline bus caught fire at Lado Sarai in South Delhi on Sunday. However, no one was reportedly injured.

The police said the incident occurred around 3-45 p.m. when the fire broke out. The occupants alighted from the bus well before the blaze engulfed it completely. The bus plied on route No. 715, between Manglapuri and Mehrauli.
