Use of chemicals to prolong the shelf life of food items or to enhance their taste has become a common practice in the State. Sometimes it is the handiwork of farmers (strong pesticides and powerful fertilizers), sometimes of dealers (banned preservatives to keep the food from decaying) and sometimes of hawkers (chemicals used to make the food look fresh). What do you think should be done to combat the contamination of food items? Do we need more laws? Please send in your reactions, a maximum of 300 words, marked `Peoplespeak', by post, e-mail or by hand, to reach us by July 6.
