Letters to the Editor
This refers to the Centre's proposal to disinvest 10 per cent shares in the Neyveli Lignite Corporation. The Government has said that the disinvestment from NLC and NALCO will be used for social sector schemes and reviving sick units. The common man is at a loss to know why there should be any objection to the move when the funds are sought to be utilised for the welfare of the masses. We would in fact want more funds to be raised by such disinvestments without diluting the public sector status of the companies.
T.S. Gopalakrishnan,
* * * Those who oppose disinvestment should remember that making inadequate profits is as bad as incurring losses. The huge investments have to be made to work efficiently for the benefit of the common man. The Government should not get bogged down by the employees' demand that they be allowed to get away with the present state of inefficiency and unaccountability. Of course the private sector will make some profits but you shouldn't cut off your nose to spite your face.
K.R. Ganesan,
