KATHMANDU: Maoist supremo Prachanda on Monday called his cadres to suspend the actions of the "people's court." In a statement Prachanda alias Puspa Kamal Dahal said, "The party's central committee calls for all the cadres to shun forcing people to donate, not to establish new customs point and to suspend `people's court' in urban areas for now to facilitate the ongoing peace process." However, the statement said the rebels would continue to collect voluntary donations. The statement comes after widespread national and international condemnation of the rebels' continued acts of intimidation, extortion and killing. At a public function last week, American Ambassador to Nepal James Moriarty criticised the Maoists saying they haven't changed their ways. He further said that the U.S. wouldn't support the rebels joining the Government unless they shun violence. Addressing the House of Representatives on Sunday, Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula said the rebels were continuing extortions and intimidation and urged them to immediately stop such activities.
