Nostalgia overtakes main players at a film function

CHENNAI: Nostalgia overtook main players at a film function held before a packed audience at a Vadapalani hotel on Monday.

That it was an occasion for the launch of P.Vasu's new movie that introduces his son Shakthi to Tamil cinema, was only a sidelight.

But more interestingly, the function brought a host of celebrities onto the stage. Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Prabhu, Sathyaraj, Jayapradha and producer M. Saravanan felicitated P.Vasu.

Kamal Haasan said the function had brought old friends together.

But it was superstar Rajinikanth who was the cynosure of all eyes. He acknowledged Kamal Haasan's talent, and noted that whenever Vasu directed films featuring him such as `Panakkaran', `Mannan', `Uzhaippali' and `Chandramukhi' they had become big hits. "But importantly he gave me a break in each movie he directed. "Though it is easy today to enter the film field compared to the 60s and 70s, it is difficult to sustain in the industry. Shakthi must be happy to have P. Vasu as his father. But he needs to work hard and I know Shakthi will work hard and make us all happy."

Earlier Sathyaraj wished Shakthi a long and successful career. Kamal Haasan, Prabhu, Jayapradha, Telugu star Balakrishna and M Saravanan also wished Shakthi on his new assignment. Also present were Kovai Sarala, Ramanarayanan, FEFSI Vijayan and Kushboo.

The film "Thottal Poomalarum" is produced by Saphire Media and Infrastructure. The music is scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Camera is handled by K.Pazhanivel and the story, screenplay, dialogue and direction are by P.Vasu.
