Had also made an attempt on the life of sub-inspector's brother

  • Encounter with the Crime Branch took place at Narela
  • Naresh was carrying a reward of Rs. 10,000 on his head

NEW DELHI: A criminal carrying a reward of Rs. 10,000 on his head and wanted in connection with the murder of a Delhi police sub-inspector and an attempt on the life of his head constable brother, has been killed in an encounter with the Crime Branch at Narela in North-West Delhi. The police claim to have recovered a pistol from his possession.

According to the police, the Anti Auto-theft squad of the Crime Branch received a tip-off that Naresh alias Neshi would come to Narela in a Matiz car on Sunday. Subsequently, a team comprising Inspector Rajbir Sharma and Sub-Inspector Sehdev Rana laid a trap on NH-I and spotted the Matiz car around 2-45 p.m.

When the police waved at the driver to spot, he accelerated the vehicle instead and drove towards residential quarters. They, however, intercepted the Matiz after a brief chase, at which the occupant opened fire at them.

In retaliatory action, he sustained a bullet injury and was rushed to Raja Harishchandra Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

The police said Naresh had killed Sub-Inspector Suresh Chand inside the Janakpuri police quarter premises in West Delhi in March last year. Subsequently, Police Commissioner K.K. Paul announced a reward of Rs. 10,000 on his head. In April last year, Naresh allegedly shot at thrice at Head Constable Brij Kishore, brother of Suresh Chand, in Gurgaon.

According to the police, he wanted to eliminate Brij because he was investigating the case of his brother's murder. Brij is presently posted with the Crime Branch.

About four years ago, Naresh had allegedly killed one Daya Kishan, a resident of Jhajjar in Haryana, as the former had blackened Naresh's face after the village panchayat found him guilty of having teased a woman. Naresh was declared a proclaimed offender in that case. Besides, he was allegedly involved in some other cases of attempt-to-murder and criminal intimidation.
