    Madikeri: The Cauvery and its major tributaries, including the Lakshmanateerta, are in spate following heavy rain in Kodagu district, according to reports here on Monday.

    The district administration has announced that educational institutions in the district will remain closed from Tuesday to Friday.

    The Madikeri-Bhagamandala road and the Bhagamandala-Aiyyangeri road are inundated, and Bhagamandala remains cut off from the rest of the district.

    There have been disruptions in power supply. Many trees and electricity poles have fallen on the Bhagamandala-Talacauvery road. Paddy fields in Bhagamandala along the river are flooded, and water is flowing on the Napoklu-Murnad road, near Bolibane.

    Talacauvery received a rainfall of 211.3 mm in 24 hours and Bhagamandala 183.5 mm. The water level in the Cauvery is near the danger mark at Karadigodu, Betri, Guhya and Nellihudikeri. The Lakshmanateerta, which is flowing above the danger mark in Virajpet taluk, has severed links between Kanur, Nalkeri and Harihara.

    Srimangala received 80 mm rainfall in 24 hours, Ponnampet 44 mm, Gonicoppa 31 mm and Virajpet 73.6 mm. Water from the Kadnur river has submerged paddy fields near Virajpet.

    Power supply in Madikeri and surrounding areas was disrupted. Voltage fluctuations were reported. A tree fell on a flourmill at Mallikarjunanagar, damaging the building. Madikeri received a rainfall of 118.6 mm in 24 hours. Landslips occurred in many places in the city.

    Debris from a shop which was damaged in a landslip near the private bus stand on Sunday night was removed by the City Municipal Council authorities.

    Somwarpet received 129.6 mm of rainfall in 24 hours. The Harangi Reservoir area received a rainfall of 33.6 mm.

    The inflow into the reservoir on Monday was 12,101 cusecs, and the water level was 2,857.5 ft against the maximum level of 2,859 ft. The four sluice gates of the reservoir were opened for the first time this year and 2,672 cusecs of water was released into the river.
