SAI (Kurnool) swamps Friends United

HYDERABAD: Sports Authority of India (STC, Kurnool) outplayed Friends United Club 4-0 in the SAAP prize-money football tournament for coaching centres at the Lal Bahadur Stadium here on Monday.

D. Nikesh put SAI ahead in the 36th minute off a pass from D. Shekhar. Within 12 minutes, Shekhar made it 2-0. In the second session, SAI struck twice through Y. Williams and Karimullah.

In another match, SAAP Football Academy scored a 2-0 win against Unity Sports Academy with Pratap Reddy and Tirupathi scoring once each.

AP Sports School also recorded a 2-0 win against Dhanraj Coaching Centre (Trimulgherry) with Rambabu and Satish striking once each in each session.

Dinesh moves up

Top-seeded R. Dinesh Babu scored a 25-5, 25-0 win against V. Vishnu Kumar in the second round of the MCH State-ranking open carrom tournament at Victory Playground here.

Dell in semifinal

Dell scored a seven-run win over Ivy Comptech in the SBH floodlit corporate cricket tournament here.

The scores: Quarterfinals: GE CFS 154 for seven (Dhillon 51) lost to HSBC `B' 155 for three (Ram Kumar 73).

HSBC `A' 176 for eight (Ramakrishna 63) bt CSC 151 (Bharath 54).

Dell 131 bt Ivy Comptech 124 for nine.

GVK to sponsor Ashwin

GVK Group of Industries will sponsor Ashwin Vijayaraghavan, a promising tennis player and a trainee at Ganesh Raman Tennis Centre (Bowenpally), according to Ganesh Raman, coach.

Ashwin, who rose from a ranking of 1200 to 248 in the last one year, has been a consistent performer in the ITF juniors circuit reaching the singles semifinals and doubles finals in the junior Grade III event in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) in June this year. Corporate Cup basketball

The Hyderabad District Basketball Association (HDBA) will conduct the inaugural Corporate Cup basketball tournament for men at YMCA, Secunderabad from July 22 that is open to software, multi-national companies (MNCs) and business process outsourcing (BPO) firms.

The tournament will be conducted on a league-cum-knockout format with matches slated for the weekends, according to Norman Isaac, joint secretary, HDBA.

There is an entry fee of Rs. 6,000 per team. Entries close on July 15 with B. Ravinder (9441228812) or Norman Isaac (9440048210), from whom the tournament prospectus can be obtained at the venue or by e-mail from norman_hoopster @yahoo.co.in.

Inter-school basketball

The Hyderabad District Basketball Association will conduct an inter-school tournament at the YMCA Secunderabad from July 4. A dozen boys' and 10 girls' teams have already confirmed participation.
