Writ petition dismissed

HYDERABAD: The writ petition filed by K. Bharati, a candidate from Dabba, Karimnagar district MPTC challenging the policy of the State Election Commission to count votes at Revenue Divisional Centres has been dismissed by Justice P. S. Narayana on Monday. She also wanted a direction to conduct the election for the post of the Chairman of Mandal Parishad and Zilla Parishad immediately after the counting of votes for the respective territorial constituency. The bench said that this is not violation of any particular statutory provisions and hence dismissed the writ petition. Legal Correspondent

Inter admissions to end by July 15

HYDERABAD: The first and second phase of Inter admissions for those who passed SSC supplementary examination-2006 will end on July 15, a press release by Intermediate Board Secretary R.P. Sisodia said on Monday. Principals of all colleges can make provisional admissions based on internet marks memo and transfer certificates issued by schools where they last studied, including SSC advance supplementary. VIJAYAWADA: The second counselling for admission into M. Sc (medical) courses for 2006-'07 will be held at Dr. N.T.R. University of Health Sciences from 10 a.m. on July 5. Action sought against Christian missionaries

BANGALORE: Heads of various Mutts have warned of an agitation if the Andhra Pradesh Government does not stop activities of Christian missionaries at Tirumala. Addressing presspersons here on Monday, Sri Vishvesha Tirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt, Udupialleged that missionaries were hurting the sentiments of Hindus by propagating their religion and attempting to convert people in Tirumala. Sri Vishvesha Thirtha, who is vice-president of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, said a meeting of heads of Mutts in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh would be convened on July 10 in Hyderabad and July 15 at Tirupati. - Special Correspondent

PR staff awaiting pay

KADAPA: Eight hundred panchayat raj ministerial employees working in Zilla Parishad and mandal parishads in Kadapa district were not paid salaries for the last three months, as Zilla Parishad CEO P. Durgaprasad was engrossed in election process, CITU district general secretary A. Raghunatha Reddy said on Monday. Stating that the employees faced hardships due to non-payment of salaries, he urged Panchayat Raj Commissioner and Kadapa ZP CEO to divert money from general fund and pay salaries of the employees. - Staff Reporter

Drive to deworm sheep, goats

KADAPA: A 10-day drive will be launched on July 12 for deworming of 8.50 lakh sheep and three lakh goats in Kadapa distric, incharge Joint Director of Animal Husbandry V.L. Satyaprakash said on Monday. During the drive, veterinary sadassus would be conducted to enlighten sheep and goat-rearers on sheep insurance scheme besides giving them suggestions on their problems, he said in a statement. Interactive meetings would be held in all villages during Fodder Week from July 7 to 14, Dr. Satyaprakash said. Ex-Minister visits Proddatur on parole

KADAPA: Former Minister and TDP leader P. Ramasubba Reddy, undergoing life imprisonment in the Shadnagar double murder case, who was granted parole, attended the death ceremony of his father-in-law Vangala Veera Reddy, at Proddatur on Monday. Cherlapalle jail officials brought Ramasubba Reddy amidst security and handed him over to Proddatur II Town police on Sundaty night. His wife Indira, aunt P. Lakshmidevamma, cousin P. Giridhar Reddy and other family members met him. He would be taken back to Cherlapally jail in Hyderabad on Wednesday, according to the police.

Body found

KURNOOL: The police found the unidentified body of a person in the Hundri here on Monday. He was believed to have got into the river in inebriated condition and died. - Staff Reporter
