Develop a positive attitude and work hard, students told

`Teachers should evolve new ways of imparting education to children'



TOPPERS: Meritorious students of St. Paul's English School, J.P. Nagar, who were felicitated.

BANGALORE: The silver jubilee celebrations of Auden Institute of Education began on Friday. Kannada writer Baragur Ramachandrappa, television actor and director T. N. Seetharam, actor Yamuna Murthy and Gururaj Karajagi were the guests of honour at the inaugural function.

The programme began with the presentation of the school report by N. Ramanna, founder of the institution.

Mr. Seetharam highlighted the importance of inculcating values in life. Globalisation and privatisation had adversely affected the life of the common man and resulted in the erosion of human values, he said.

Ms. Yamuna Murthy told the children to develop positive attitude and to be optimistic in life. She told the teachers to evolve new ways of imparting education and pointed out that teaching through demonstration would have a greater impact.

Mr. Ramachandrappa spoke of the importance of preserving the Kannada language.

Later, prizes were distributed to meritorious students.

Felicitation function

St. Paul's English School, J.P. Nagar ushered in the new academic year by organising a felicitation function for ISC, ICSE and SSLC toppers. Krishnamoorthy Rao, former principal of National College, Gauribidanur, was the chief guest and he stressed the importance of hard work and will power in life.

He said that today's students were full of zeal, confidence and potential. Mr. Rao distributed prizes to meritorious students. Principal M. Sundari Rao congratulated the students for cent per cent results and also thanked the parents for their support. Toppers Mihir Sridhar, Alok Shetty, Adaresh and Suma shared their success formula with the audience. They attributed their success to the support received from the school.

Workshop at KV

An in-service course-cum-quality improvement workshop for chemistry teachers was conducted at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) complex. Chitralekha Gurumurthy, Assistant Commissioner, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sanghathan, Regional Office, inaugurated the workshop. "We have explored all dimensions of enabling and facilitating our students to learn and do well in chemistry. The objective is also to evolve effective approaches, including use of contemporary educational technology and enrichment of teaching community, so that the students will in turn benefit from this course," said S. Sitalakshmi, principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya, DRDO.

New principal

The 25th principal of the 141-year-old Bishop Cotton Boys' School took charge last Tuesday. John Ellis, the new principal, was accorded a warm welcome at a function organised at the school auditorium. Vasantha Kumar, Bishop, Karnataka Central Diocese, installed the new principal in his office.
